The power to self-publish can be addictive. The ability to share your mind with the world is a high like no other. I get a buzz every time I press publish and it’s awesome.
What is the 4th estate:
- a societal or political force or institution whose influence is not consistently or officially recognized.
- aka News Media
I always fall back on the lesson my “Uncle Ben” use to tell me: with great power comes great responsibility.
And on that note, please allow me to introduce my internet code of ethics…
Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough. An ethical journalist acts with integrity.
The Society declares these four principles as the foundation of ethical journalism and encourages their use in its practice by all people in all media.
- Seek Truth and Report It
- Minimize Harm
- Act Independently
- Be Accountable and Transparent
